85-Year-Old St. Croix Man Reported Missing Monday Found Deceased at Beach; Cause of Death Unknown

ST. CROIX — A St. Croix man who was reported missing Monday was found the water at Carlton Beach late Tuesday afternoon, V.I.P.D. Public Information Officer Toby Derima has announced.

According to the news release, 85-year-old Oswald A. Small was reported missing on Monday by family members. Small was observed driving his vehicle on surveillance video that morning around 9:15 a.m. near a residence in Estate Carlton. VIPD officers and members of the community conducted searches for Small with negative results.

At approximately 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, officers responded to the report of a body in the water at Carlton Beach. The body of a Black male was removed from the water and confirmed not to have signs of life.

The male was identified by next of kin as Oswald Small.

The cause of death is unknown at this time, pending an autopsy, Mr. Derima said. The investigation into this incident continues.

The VIPD thanked the members of the community for the assistance in this matter.
