$774.1 Million Mitigation Plan: VIHFA Calls for Public Input in Virtual Pre-Conference

The V.I. Housing Finance Authority is inviting the public to a virtual pre-conference slated for Thursday, June 29 at 5:30 p.m. This digital gathering aims to clarify the eligibility prerequisites tied to VIHFA's Mitigation Action Plan, according to the authority.

VIHFA confirmed receiving its Mitigation Grant Agreement, which took effect on April 25, 2023. This financial assistance, totaling $774.1 million in federal MIT funding, will support activities, projects, and initiatives designed to bolster the territory's resilience against future disasters and reduce their impact.

The upcoming pre-conference hearing serves as an opportunity for the VIHFA to inform the public about intended modifications to the action plan. It will also be the platform to announce future public hearing dates, providing community members an avenue to better understand eligible projects under the grant and the process of applying for funding.

The financial distribution under the 12-year grant allocation is as follows:

  • Infrastructure and Public Facilities are set to receive $418.2 million,
  • Housing initiatives will be allotted $192.7 million,
  • Economic Resilience and Revitalization programs will be granted $76.7 million,
  • The remaining $86.5 million is reserved for public services, planning, and administration.

Interested parties are required to register in advance to attend the forthcoming Zoom meeting this Thursday.
