The monetary reward has been raised to $60,000 for anyone who can provide information that leads to the arrest of the person or persons who killed 14-year-old Aaron Ashby and his 27-year-old cousin, Rique Ashby.

Speaking during his coronavirus press briefing on Monday, Mr. Bryan said he was contacted by an anonymous donor who pledged an additional $50,000 to the $10,000 reward being offered for information leading to the arrest of the perpetrators.

“In this case, a 14-year-old with a bright future was gunned down along with his uncle while going about their day,” Mr. Bryan said. “We must bring these culprits to justice, and we know there are people in our community that have information.”

The incident occurred during the afternoon time of July 9. Police said the 911 emergency call center was alerted of shots fired in the vicinity of the old Tutu High Rise complex, near Building 13.

Emergency Medical Technicians found one victim dead at the scene.  The second victim was taken by ambulance to the Roy Lester Schneider Regional Medical Center, where he later died.

The victims were identified by family members.

St. Thomas / St. John Chief of Police Steven Phillip decried the latest incident of gun violence and appealed to the community for information to help solve this crime.
