The V.I. Dept. of Health on Monday announced two deaths caused by complications related to Covid-19. The deaths are the 74th and 75th in the territory related to the virus.

One of the two deceased was identified as a 59-year-old woman from St. Thomas, while the other, announced just before noon Monday, was identified as a 37-year-old man on St. Croix.

The department said it continues to work to slow the spread of Covid-19, and it called on residents to continue following precautionary measures: practice social distancing, wear a mask when in company of others outside of those in your household, clean frequently used areas thoroughly, and wash your hands often with soap and warm water.

As of Saturday there were 159 active Covid-19 cases territory-wide: 136 on St. Croix, 21 on St. Thomas and 2 on St. John.

According to the New York Times realtime Covid-19 tracker, only 45 percent of Virgin Islanders were vaccinated as of Monday, among the lowest in the United States.
