$250 Up For Grabs as ESVI Announces Essay Competition Topic

Civic-minded students now have a chance to win a cash prize for their essay about how young people can encourage Virgin islanders to take a keener interest in their democracy.

As part of its 60th anniversary celebrations, The Election System of the Virgin Islands (ESVI) has announced an essay competition for students in grades 7 through 9 across the education system.

According to the release, public, private, parochial and homeschooling students are invited to write between 500 and 600 words on the topic "What actions can you and your peers take to engage Virgin Islanders to actively participate in democracy, to get involved in elections, raise the level of civic engagement of your peers and to register to vote?"

Entrants will have until February 21 to write their essays in Microsoft Word or Google Docs format and submit them to [email protected]. The winning submission will receive a $250 cash prize.
