U.S. Postal Service locations in the Virgin Islands will be closed Saturday, July 4, in observance of Independence Day, with regular mail delivery and retail services scheduled to resume Monday, July 6.
USPS said Post Offices will remain open and deliveries will occur as normal on Friday, July 3.
Customers will still be able to use online services while Post Offices are closed. Through usps.com, customers can order stamps and free USPS boxes, place Hold Mail requests, submit Change of Address requests, rent or renew PO Boxes, and use Click-N-Ship to print prepaid labels.
USPS also noted that self-service kiosks are available in select lobbies nationwide. Those kiosks allow customers to print postage for Priority Mail, Priority Mail Express and international shipping; purchase stamps; weigh and mail packages; and access package tracking information.
As USPS modernizes its retail locations, more self-service options are being added at additional locations. Those may include Rapid Dropoff Stations for customers who have already created and printed labels online, an option to print shipping labels from a merchant-provided QR code, and USPS Smart Lockers that allow customers to drop off and pick up packages.
Many self-service kiosks are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, giving customers access to some services even when Post Offices are closed.
The Postal Service also said it is joining in the celebration of the nation’s 250th anniversary through initiatives at select local Post Offices, themed merchandise, and patriotic Priority Mail envelopes and boxes while supplies last. Those items are expected to be available at Post Offices beginning in early July.
USPS is an independent federal establishment that is mandated to be self-financing and to serve every American community through the affordable, reliable and secure delivery of mail and packages to more than 170 million addresses six and often seven days a week.
The Postal Service is overseen by a bipartisan Board of Governors and is celebrating its 250th year of service while carrying out a network modernization plan aimed at restoring long-term financial sustainability, improving service and maintaining the organization’s standing as one of America’s most valued and trusted brands.
USPS generally receives no tax dollars for operating expenses and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to fund its operations.
