The Virgin Islands Dept. of Education confirmed Monday that all territorial public schools will be closed on Tuesday, Nov. 18 as voters once again head to the polls to vote in the Run-Off Election. Many of the territory's public schools are used as polling places.
The unscheduled interruption in the school calendar comes as a run-off election was deemed necessary when official election results published on Saturday night revealed that neither gubernatorial candidate, Donna Christensen and Kenneth Mapp, attained 50%+1 of votes required to win in the November 4 General Election.
Government offices are also closed on November 18.
