ST. CROIX – Parking restrictions go into effect for the Captain Morgan Ironman 70.3 St. Croix event starting at 3 a.m. Sunday May 3, according to police.
The Virgin Islands Police Department said the following parking restrictions will remain in effect until 3 p.m. Sunday. Parking is prohibited along the entire Triathlon Route including the staging area at the Christiansted wharf.
Parking is also prohibited on Church Street in Christiansted between King and Company Streets. Vehicles parking along the triathlon route will be cited and towed at the owner’s expense, the VIPD said.
Police said traffic on East End Road (Rt. 82) will be allowed to travel in an easterly direction from South Shore Road (Rt. 60) to the entrance of Cramer’s Park Road.
Traffic on South Shore Road (Rt. 60) from Sally fancy to Junie’s Bar & Restaurant will be permitted to travel in a westerly direction, police said.
All traffic is required to pull to the side of the road and stop to allow the triathletes to pass safely, according to police.
Vehicular traffic and pedestrians attempting to cross the Ironman route will be allowed to do so in a safe manner when feasible, providing the crossing does not interfere with or endanger the triathletes, police said.
Barricades will be set up at certain intersections; anyone found removing such barricades for vehicular traffic will be cited accordingly, the VIPD said
Motorists are urged to use alternate routes as possible, and as directed by VIPD officers during the event.
The police department apologized for “any inconvenience these restrictions may cause and wishes the community, visitors and tri-athletes a safe and enjoyable triathlon competition.”
