More than $7 million in long-awaited income tax refunds are being released to Virgin Islands residents, continuing a series of payouts aimed at returning funds to eligible taxpayers who filed on time.
Government House announced Monday that over $7 million has been authorized for distribution to 2,817 Virgin Islands tax filers who are owed refunds and who submitted their income tax returns by April 9, 2024. The announcement was made during the weekly Government House press briefing Monday.
The newly approved batch follows earlier refund releases this year, including $10 million issued in November ahead of the Thanksgiving holiday and $15.7 million distributed in July, according to the administration. Together, the payments reflect an ongoing effort to address refund backlogs and deliver owed funds to residents.
“These refunds matter,” Government House Director of Communications Richard Motta said. “They help families cover groceries, rent, school expenses and the everyday costs that do not take a holiday break.”
According to Motta, additional refunds remain in the pipeline. He said the administration will continue working to process income tax refunds as efficiently as possible and will provide updates to the public as future batches are approved and released.
Officials did not announce a timeline for the next round of payments but stressed that eligible filers who submitted returns by the April deadline remain a priority as processing continues.
