The Department of Planning and Natural Resources said on Friday that four beaches in St. Thomas -- Lindbergh Bay, Bluebeard’s, Coki Point and Frenchman’s Bay -- were not safe for swimming and fishing this weekend, because they did not meet the water quality standard deemed safe. Separately, Stoney Ground and Grapetree Bay on St. Croix were not tested, therefore their water quality remains unknown, D.P.N.R. said.
All other beaches were safe for swimming and fishing, the department said. They include:
St. Croix: Cramer’s Park, Shoy’s, New Fort (Ft. Louise Augusta), Buccaneer, Chenay Bay, Dorsch, Frederiksted Public Beach, Halfpenny, Cane Bay, Pelican Cove (Cormorant), Protestant Cay, Rainbow and Gentle Winds.
St. Thomas: Magen’s Bay, Brewer’s Bay, Sapphire, Lindquist, Limetree Bay, Vessup Bay, Water Bay, Bolongo Bay, Secret Harbor, Hull Bay and Morningstar.
St. John: Johnson Bay, Frank Bay, Cruz Bay, Great Cruz Bay and Oppenheimer.
D.P.N.R. said all persons should be aware that storm water runoff may contain contaminants or pollutants harmful to human health, and therefore all persons should avoid areas of storm water runoff (i.e. guts, puddles, and drainage basins). DPNR will continue to monitor the impacted areas and waters.
