Show Love and Support for Local Public High School Musicians on St. Thomas

ST. THOMAS — A karaoke fundraiser and silent auction in support of the 12 Miles Up non-profit will be held at the Seven Minus Seven art gallery on November 22nd, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m.

All proceeds from the event will go toward the 12 Miles Up program, created this summer to harness the power of the Virgin Islands’ youth culture and original music to create positive change in the territory.

The Seven Minus Seven gallery is located west of Charlotte Amalie, near the airport (next to Broadband VI and Le Blue, directly behind Boyne’s Gas). Tickets are $20, which includes sushi hor d’ouvres, sake and karaoke.

12 Miles Up – co-founded by Ivanna Eudora Kean High School teacher Monique Schmidt and Rotary Club East (St. Thomas) officer Marilyn Holmes – was created this summer as a “leadership through hip hop program for V.I. youth.”

The first group of 12 Miles Up participants – four Kean high students – wrote, performed and produced an original “conscious hip hop” video unveiled at a September event on St. Thomas. (Watch here: https://youtu.be/WhKhxuDN6gA)
