BARBADOS — While it is back to work for most Barbadians on Monday, June 15, daycare centers will open one week later to allow time for protocols to be put in place and training to be carried out, the government of Barbados has announced.
In making the announcement, Prime Minister Mia Mottley said Thursday that daycare centers, which have remained closed since the island’s shutdown on March 28 as a result of COVID-19, would reopen on June 22.
“With all businesses reopening, we recognize that there has to be adequate provision for child care, and while all schools are not fully open and all daycare centers have been closed thus far, we believe that by permitting them to reopen it would assist considerably, given those who have to go back to work," said the prime minister.
Ms. Mottley stressed the importance of training and the adherence to protocols at these centers. To ensure that these were in place, she said the centers would open a week later to allow the Ministry of Health and Wellness the appropriate time “not just to share the protocols with them but to do any fine-tuning, checking and training as is required.”
