The V.I. Police Department is providing would-be revelers ample warning against the wearing of full face masks while participating in events during St. Thomas Carnival (V.I. Carnival), slated for the second quarter of 2023.

"The Virgin Islands Police Department would like to advise the public, event promoters and carnival vendors that no ski masks or full-face covering masks will be allowed during the St. Thomas carnival season of events, specifically J'Ouvert," a press release from the epartment reads.

Surgical masks of the kind approved for protection against Covid-19 are allowed, the VIPD says.

Anyone found wearing the prohibited masks will be asked to remove them, and those who do not comply will be removed from whatever event or function they are attending.

The VIPD accompanied their announcement with an image of the types of mask that will be deemed acceptable.
