It got off to a late start, but Jouvert Morning in St. Thomas — back after a two-year pandemic-induced lull — was full throttle Thursday morning, the clearest indication yet that people are ready to move on with their lives and get back to the things of meaning to them.

By the time the first truck started from west to east beginning near the Western Cemetery and moving through Charlotte Amalie, day-break was upon revelers. But once the bands and deejays started playing, the tramp picked up steam and the event had passed the USO building at about 10:30 a.m.

From Cool Sessions Brass to VIO International, and Carnage (formerly Poizon Band) to Shaw HP — revelers were led by a good mix music and expressed themselves in dance, freeing up at least for the moment from the cares of the world. Deejay Avalanche was present as well.

Officials current and past lined the streets, including Dept. of Tourism Commissioner Joseph Boschulte, whose department through the Division of Festivals is responsible for putting on the festivities, and former Senator Myron Jackson, a culture and history proponent.
