The results of Monday’s general election in the British Virgin Islands has led to discussions between the four main political parties about who will be a part of the ruling coalition.

Voters in the BVI did not hand any one party a clear majority in the House of Assembly. Of the 15 seats, the Virgin Islands Party (VIP) won six, the Progressive Virgin Islands Movement (PVIM) and the National Democratic Movement (NDM)  gained three seats each. Progressives United (PU) captured one.

A statement by the PVIM confirmed that the parties were now in talks to figure out a way forward. “We left our offices and groups at 4:00 a.m. this morning, 25 April working on your behalf. By 8:00 a.m., we will reconvene for a meeting with the different groups to decide where we go, as where we go have [sic] to be vested in the interest of the people and what you elected us to do in the best interest of the Virgin Islands. Therefore, we will be coming to you, the public, to present this full picture,” the statement read in part.

As of press time, we understand that the discussions are still ongoing. The Consortium will update this report as more information becomes available.
