A statement from the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force alerted the public on Wednesday to charges against a police officer accused of being behind a “significant security breach.”
According to the RVIPF, a planned operation last November was compromised due to the “unauthorized disclosure of sensitive information.” This breach “raised serious concerns about the integrity of law enforcement protocols,” and triggered a “comprehensive investigation led by a specialized team within the Force,” the police statement said. “This investigation underscored the gravity of the breach and the necessity for stringent accountability measures within the organization.”
The investigation singled out Constable Earlando Baynes, who was arrested and charged with Breach of Trust by a Public Officer as a result. The first court appearance for Mr. Baynes is expected to take place in the coming days.
“We are dedicated to eradicating corruption within our force and ensuring public trust in our law enforcement capabilities,” said Jacqueline Vanterpool, Commissioner of Police.
