The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) on Sunday issued an alert for a magnitude 4.5 earthquake near the coast of Venezuela, which may have been felt in the U.S. Virgin Islands. The announcement was made by the V.I. Territorial Emergency Management Agency.

The preliminary USGS report provided further details on the earthquake's location, noting that the epicenter is approximately 39.7 km north-northwest of Güiria, Venezuela, and 53.8 km northeast of Yaguaraparo, Venezuela. Additionally, it is 90.1 km east-northeast of Carúpano, Venezuela, 106.4 km west-northwest of Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago, and 109.0 km west-northwest of Laventille, Trinidad and Tobago.
