Recently recognized as a dynamic and innovative leader in the aviation industry, Shermaine Freeman has been named one of the 2023 Airport Business Top 40 Under 40.

The Virgin Islands native is currently the Interim Airport Director at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) within the Business Services Division, having demonstrated exceptional skills in various areas, including project management, system implementation, data collection, and strategic planning in her short aviation career.

Ms. Freeman's rapid ascension during her mere five years in aviation is a remarkable achievement. She has earned three promotions in just three years, and is particularly proud of leading a project to implement a new enterprise-wide system for airport maintenance management at ATL. This system, crucial for automation of work orders, inspections, and asset management, aligns with federal regulations and has involved significant stakeholder engagement and support from executive leadership.

In addition to her professional accomplishments, the St. Thomian is deeply committed to mentorship. She plays an active role in the Airport Apprenticeship Program, guiding mentees in their professional and personal development, and provides ongoing mentorship to her colleagues. "Aviation is such a dynamic and fast paced industry that has a multitude of avenues for career exploration,” Ms. Freeman said. “I am motivated by the ability to make an impact both locally and globally focusing on organizational structure and business strategy.”

Looking ahead, Ms. Freeman aims to be a change agent in the aviation industry, leveraging technical resources and innovative approaches. Her goal is to create a centric environment for efficient information flow and data management, ensuring that the aviation industry remains at the forefront of technological advancements.

Ms. Freeman's academic background includes a bachelor's degree from the University of the Virgin Islands and a master's degree from Keller Graduate School of Management.
