Calvin Belle, owner of the Spratnet Beach Bar & Grill where an incident on Saturday night between a V.I. Dept. of Health law enforcement officer and two indiviudals spiraled into an alleged hate crime against the officer, spoke to the Consortium on Wednesday. Mr. Belle defended his business and said he did not hear racial slurs of "black monkey" and "get your black ass from here" being hurled at the officer. Mr. Belle, however, said he did not know for sure, and he couldn't provide video proof of what really took place because, he said, his surveilance camera system was not functional. Watch.
