The Virgin Islands Government has outlined a plan to reopen the territory as of June 1, 2020, but safe work environments won't happen by chance.  To assist small businesses in the reopening process, the University of the Virgin Islands – Safety In Paradise (SIP) Program and the Virgin Islands Small Business Development Center (VI SBDC) announced Thursday that they have partnered to provide resources to help businesses protect their employees.

Containing the virus at this point is especially critical to reduce the spread of the disease and its impact on businesses, workers, customers, and the general public.  Employers must have a plan in place to address this and other potentially disruptive conditions, the organizations said.

The free webinar – Occupational Safety and Health During the COVID-19 Pandemic – Tips for Safe Work Environments, will provide small businesses and non-profit organizations with critical information to safely reopen their businesses, according to the release. Topics will include existing OSHA standards applied to COVID-19, the need for businesses to develop dedicated contingency plans, and assessing points of exposure.

The webinar will be conducted in both English and Spanish.  The session will be held on Tuesday, May 19, 2020, from 10:00 – 10:30 am (English) or 10:30 – 11:00 am (Spanish). Interested individuals are urged to register for the session in advance.  To register, visit:
