Tim Reid
Television industry legend and filmmaker Tim Reid has announced the launch of a groundbreaking new media network, "LGCY TV", exclusively for the Caribbean audience. The network will begin its operations via Liberty Latin America's Flow Video Streaming and Subscription Video on Demand (SVOD) platforms.
The launch comes after almost a year of collaboration between Reid and the UVI Research and Technology Park (RTPark) through its Entrepreneur-in-Residence program. This partnership has been crucial in strategically introducing the "LGCY TV" Network to the Caribbean region via Liberty Latin America, according to a release from stakeholders.
Tim Reid said, "Media globally is undergoing significant shifts, shaping the social and cultural perceptions of billions daily. This transformation presents an opportune moment for 'storytellers' like us to offer diverse and culturally significant narratives."
Throughout his career, Reid has focused on presenting stories often overlooked, stereotyped, or forgotten by mainstream media. The mission of LGCY TV is to offer content that highlights the history, culture, and lifestyles of the African Diaspora and its pivotal role in shaping mankind's destiny.
The RTPark, recognized for its innovative economic development programs, aims to diversify and expand the USVI economy by promoting technology, knowledge-based, and sustainable agriculture firms within the region. Through its Entrepreneur-in-Residence Program, Reid collaborates closely with RTPark, enhancing its role as a catalyst in boosting the USVI and greater Caribbean’s creative economy.
In addition to promoting the USVI as an ideal location for creative enterprises, Reid's experience will help train local talents for opportunities in the burgeoning film and entertainment industry. This training will be in collaboration with the University of the Virgin Islands and other key stakeholders.
Peter H. Chapman, CEO of RTPark, views the partnership with Reid as a dynamic step towards alignment with the broader film industry. "This sector has the potential to ignite job growth within the local and regional creative economy," said Chapman, "playing a pivotal role in diversifying the economic landscape of the USVI."
RTPark invites individuals from the film and arts communities in the USVI and the Caribbean to engage with their initiatives aimed at advancing the local and regional creative economy. Interested parties can connect by filling out the Creative Economy Stakeholder Interest Form.
