Virgin Islanders who aspire to tech entrepreneurship have the opportunity to participate in a 15-week program designed to provide them with a “step-by-step framework for launching and growing a technology company, free of charge.”
That announcement came from the University of the Virgin Islands Research and Technology Park (UVI RT Park), informing of the launch of the USVI Idea Incubator.
According to UVI, the program is tailored towards educating and training participants on the fundamentals of working with developers to build a product while exposing them to industry best practices and providing the tools and resources to execute.
As befitting a program of this nature, training will be delivered in a hybrid format, with weekly virtual sessions and scheduled in-person engagement opportunities during the first and final weeks of the program.
Entrepreneurship Program Management Amannda Spann says that prior programs for entrepreneurs gave RT Park a key piece of information – many aspiring founders, especially those transitioning into tech entrepreneurship, didn’t know what they didn’t know.
“We realized that it was critical for us to realign as an organization to provide a foundation education that would empower and enable residents to take their ideas from concept to creation and break into the industry with confidence,” said Ms. Spann. “We have recalibrated and… look forward to deploying Idea Incubator and helping Virgin Islanders take the first steps towards building the ideas of the future.”
The series of workshops, webinars and mentoring sessions participants will undergo during the 15-week exercise will provide them with professional feedback and give them the tools they need to launch a product, boost their sales, and polish their pitch for future endeavors.
Applications to the program opened on April 4th. Requirements include being based in the territory, having generated less than $50,000 in revenue and less than $100,000 in investment (including equity, notes and grants). Interested parties can review the program’s full requirements and submit an online application at www.incubatevi.com.
