Police Arrest Man Wanted for Stabbing Incident, Charging Him With Attempted Murder

ST. CROIX — The V.I. Police Department has arrested a man wanted for first-degree attempted murder. 

Lafayette Artis, age 29 was arrested on Thursday evening following a notice for his arrest published by the department and sent to media houses. 

Artis was arrested in connection with an Oct. 3 incident where a V.I. Superior Court marshal requested EMT assistance in Estate Richmond Beach in Christiansted, in the vicinity of the D. Hamilton Jackson Terrace Housing Community. According to the marshal, two adult males had sustained multiple stab wounds.

Criminal Investigation Bureau detectives then traveled to investigate the incident and discovered that Artis and the victim had an ongoing feud. Artis attacked the victim by stabbing him in the upper back and the back of the neck, according to the V.I.P.D.

On Thursday morning an arrest warrant was issued by the V.I. Superior Court for Artis, who was then arrested at 6:40p.m. the same day.

Unable to make bail of $100,000, Artis was remanded to the John Bell Correctional Facility pending his advisement hearing.
