ST. CROIX — One of the world’s most popular fried chicken brands is coming to the U.S. Virgin Islands. Church’s Texas Chicken™ will open a new St. Croix location on August 30, 2025, in Sunny Isles, the company announced this week.
The franchise will be operated by Wenvi, a local group led by Dr. Peter Kumpitch, a seasoned entrepreneur with more than 50 years of business and restaurant management experience in the Virgin Islands.
“This exciting new venture marks a significant milestone in the global growth strategy of the Church’s brand,” the company said in a statement. With over 70 years of history and more than 1,400 restaurants in 20 countries, Church’s is known for its bold Texas flavor, hand-battered fried chicken, and freshly baked honey-butter biscuits.
“We are privileged to be invited by Church’s Texas Chicken™ to contribute to their growth in the Caribbean,” said Dr. Kumpitch. “We look forward to introducing flavorful and juicy fried chicken to our Virgin Islanders.”
The new Sunny Isles location is just the beginning. Church’s has plans to expand further in the territory. “We are thrilled to bring our brand and legendary fried chicken recipes to the U.S. Virgin Islands,” said Gregg Gallagher, Vice President of the Americas for Church’s Texas Chicken™. “We believe that Sunny Isle location is a perfect location to introduce our Bold Texas Flavor to the territory.”
Gallagher also said the company anticipates opening at least five locations across the Virgin Islands within the next five years.
“We’re incredibly pleased with how the Caribbean has embraced Church’s Texas Chicken™,” he added, “and we look forward to working together with Dr. Kumpitch and the Wenvi organization to make Church’s a beloved brand in the USVI.”
