Governor Albert Bryan will be out of the territory from Thursday, July 8 through Monday, July 12 to host a government of the Virgin Islands job recruitment fair in Atlanta in hopes of encouraging Virgin Islanders to return home to work for the G.V.I., Government House has announced.
On Tuesday, Mr. Bryan said the event will be held at the Gathering Spot, which was co-founded by a Virgin Islander. The Gathering Spot is a popular private membership club in Atlanta that has hosted thousands of events with a variety of clients, among them Netflix, Google, Spotify and Coca-Cola.
Mr. Bryan said Thursday before his departure that this weekend’s job fair is part of an effort to encourage qualified Virgin Islanders living abroad to return home with the opportunity to fill needed positions in agencies throughout the government, according to the release.
“During this period, we have an unprecedented opportunity to rebuild our Territory and it is important that we ensure that Virgin Islanders are an important and vital part of that process,” the territory's leader said, according to Gov't House.
This is the first of several planned efforts to reach out to the larger Virgin Islands diaspora to fill some of the critical vacancies that currently exist through the government of the Virgin Islands, the administration said.
Saturday’s job fair will be led by the Virgin Islands Division of Personnel and will feature four professional panels of representatives from various government agencies:
- Health, Human Services and Education
- Law Enforcement
- Financial Services
- Innovation and Technology
During Governor Bryan’s absence, Lt. Governor Tregenza A. Roach will be the acting governor.
