Firefighters contain blaze at Strawberry Home on St. Croix. By. ERNICE GILBERT/ VI CONSORTIUM

ST. CROIX — At 12:42 p.m. Tuesday the VI Fire Service received a call from 911 reporting a structural fire in Strawberry.

A unit from Grove Place and another from the Frederiksted Fire Station responded. When the first responders arrived, the structure, a two-story home, was completely engulfed in flames. While the house was unoccupied, there are two homes on either side of it that the Fire Service worked to save.

The fire was contained, though a WAPA line was damaged and linemen were on site to repair it. It took firefighters about 25 minutes to contain the blaze, said Deputy Fire Chief P. Christian.
