ST. CROIX — Emergency services responded to two separate hiking incidents at the Tide Pool over the weekend, where individuals sustained leg injuries after falling on the trail. Both were transported by ambulance to the Juan F. Luis Hospital (JFL) and are reported to be in stable condition.
According to St. Croix Rescue Acting Chief Jason Henry, the first incident occurred on Friday and involved a woman on vacation with her family. Just two days later, on Sunday, a resident male hiking with friends and family also fell and injured his leg. Emergency responders from St. Croix Rescue and the Virgin Islands Fire and Emergency Medical Services (VIFEMS) assisted in both rescues.
In light of these incidents, VIFEMS Director Antonio Stevens and St. Croix Rescue Acting Chief Henry are urging hikers to exercise greater caution when using the trail.
The Tide Pool remains a popular hiking destination on the island, attracting both residents and tourists. However, officials recommend proper footwear, preparation, and awareness of trail conditions to ensure a safe experience for all visitors.
