Toyota Camry Loses Control and Hits Safari, Leaving Nine Injured on Rumer Drive

ST. THOMAS — An accident on Monday evening that occurred near the Lockhart Gardens Shopping Center on Rumer Drive has left nine individuals injured, according to police spokesman Toby Derima.

Mr. Derima reported that on Monday at 5:59 p.m., the 911 Emergency Call Center dispatched officers to Rumer Drive in the vicinity of the Lockhart Gardens Shopping Center to investigate an auto accident. Officers found a red Ford safari and a white Toyota Camry in a collision.

The preliminary investigation revealed that the Toyota Camry, with three occupants, was traveling north and lost control, veering into oncoming traffic traveling south, colliding into the safari which was carrying six passengers.

The three occupants of the Toyota Camry and the six passengers of the safari were injured in the collision, requiring medical attention at the Schneider Regional Medical Center, Mr. Derima said. They were all listed in stable condition.

This case is under investigation by the VIPD Traffic Investigation Bureau, according to the release.
