ST. JOHN — V.I. Fire and Emergency Medical Services fought a significant structural fire that broke out on the island of St. John today, according to a release issued by the service.
At precisely 10:05 a.m., the local 911 Call Center dispatched VIFEMS units to respond to a reported fire at a residential property. Within an impressive ten-minute window, two units from Romeo Co., and an ambulance, were on the scene at 13B Hard Labor on St. John.
Upon their arrival, the VIFEMS teams were confronted with a single-story residence ablaze. Through swift action and clear coordination, an additional unit from the Zulu Co. was summoned to aid in the firefighting efforts. The blaze was fully extinguished within 45 minutes, preventing it from spreading and causing further damage to the surrounding neighborhood, according to VIFEMS.
The structure was significantly damaged by the fire. However, all occupants of the residence had been safely evacuated, and no injuries were reported.
An investigation into the origins and causes of the fire is currently underway, with VIFEMS emphasizing the importance of a thorough examination to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future.
Given the extent of the structural damages, the American Red Cross of the Virgin Islands has been contacted to support and assist the occupants affected by this unfortunate incident.
