ST. THOMAS — V.I. Police Department officers are investigating a possible drowning incident that occurred at Brewer's Bay Tuesday afternoon, V.I.P.D. Public Information Officer Toby Derima has announced.

According to the news release, on Tuesday at approximately 2:02 p.m. the 911 Emergency Call Center dispatched officers to John Brewers Beach in reference to a possible drowning.

Police officers and security personnel from the University of the Virgin Islands traveled to the area and found an unresponsive male who was removed from the water.

The male was transported to the Schneider Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead by the Emergency Room physician, according to the news release.

The deceased was identified by his next of kin as 87-year-old George A. Lake. The cause of death is unknown at this time, pending an autopsy, said Mr. Derima.
