ST. THOMAS — A taxi accident disrupted traffic on Wednesday afternoon on St. Thomas's bustling Maude Proudfoot Drive, according to the V.I. Police Department.
According to reports from the 911 Emergency Call Service, a safari taxi carrying tourists overturned just before reaching the intersection of Valdemar Hill Senior Drive.
The incident occurred at approximately 4:52 p.m., leading to the immediate evacuation of all 12 passengers on board. Because of the prompt and effective response efforts, major injuries were avoided. However, one female passenger required medical attention and was promptly transported to the Schneider Regional Medical Center via ambulance.
Fire, Emergency Medical Services, and V.I. Police Department personnel promptly arrived on the scene to manage the situation and ensure the safety of all involved.
Traffic in the vicinity was affected, with vehicles being re-routed to the area around Mafolie Hotel. Commuters were advised to anticipate delays and consider alternate routes until the scene is cleared.
Authorities were working to restore normal traffic flow as soon as possible.
