ST. CROIX — A man riding a motorcycle died of injuries New Year's Eve after allegedly losing control of his bike and crashing into a car.
According to police spokesman Toby Derima, on Friday at 4:52 p.m., the 911 Emergency Call Center dispatched officers to a reported two-vehicle accident on Route 82 (East End Road), just east of the D. C. Canegata Sports Complex. Officers found evidence of a collision between a Nissan Versa and motorcycle, and the body of a male in the eastbound lane.
The investigation revealed the operator of the motorcycle was traveling westbound at a high rate of speed, apparently losing control of the motorcycle, veering into the eastbound lane and colliding into the right side of the Nissan Versa, according to the news release.

The operator of the motorcycle - identified by next of kin as 45-year-old Vanborn R. Neptune, Jr. of Boetzberg - was not wearing a helmet required by VI law, and severely injured in the collision, succumbing to his injuries on the scene, according to police. The driver and passenger in the Nissan Versa sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were treated and released from the Juan Francisco Luis Hospital & Medical Center.
The VIPD’s Traffic Investigation Bureau continues to investigate the accident.
