Motorcyclist Dies in Single-Vehicle Accident on Weymouth Rhymer Highway

ST. THOMAS — A motorcyclist succumb to injuries sustained during a single-vehicle accident that occurred Wednesday night on the Weymouth Rhymer Highway, V.I.P.D. Public Information Officer Toby Derima has announced.

The 911 Emergency Call Center was notified of the accident at approximately 9:56 p.m., Mr. Derima said. An investigation into the accident revealed that the motorcyclist was traveling eastbound when the rider lost control near the New Herrnhut Church entrance and hit the railing off the westbound lane.

The rider was thrown into the bushes, while the motorcycle caught fire where it stopped, according to the release. The rider of the motorcycle succumbed to his injuries on the scene.

He was identified as 36-year-old Denby Dumas.

The investigation by the VIPD Traffic Investigation Bureau continues.
