ST. THOMAS — A 21-year-old man lost control of his motorcycle and died from injuries sustained in the ensuing collision on Friday night in St. Thomas, according to the V.I. Police Department. The incident happened on Veterans Drive, just east of the Boy Scout building.

The victim, identified as Daveonte Teshawn Parris, was operating his motorcycle heading east on Veterans Drive at 10:43 p.m. when he lost control. His motorcycle veered onto the sidewalk and collided violently with the rocky embankment on De Beltjen Road, the VIPD said.

The accident was first reported to the 911 Emergency Call Center by a concerned resident. The caller indicated that Parris had fallen off his bike and was unconscious, though still breathing at the time.

Upon arrival, V.I. Police Department officers found that emergency medical services had already begun treating Parris in an ambulance. The officers gathered preliminary information, and the initial investigation suggested that Parris had lost control just after passing the Boy Scout building.

The young man was swiftly transported to the Schneider Regional Medical Center, where he succumbed to his injuries.

The Traffic Investigation Bureau is leading the investigation into the accident. Officials are urging any potential witnesses or anyone with information to come forward.
