Motorcyclist Dies During Accident in St. Thomas

ST. THOMAS — A man succumbed to injuries sustained during a vehicular accident on Thursday night at Rumer Drive, announced police spokesman Toby Derima.

According to the news release, on Thursday at approximately 7:29 p.m., officers were dispatched to Rumer Drive, in the vicinity of the Oswald Harris Court housing community, to an auto accident with injuries involving a motorcycle. Upon arrival, officers observed several good Samaritans attempting to aid a Caucasian male on the ground.

The investigation into the accident revealed that the motorcycle was traveling northward on Rumer Drive in the center turn lane. A Toyota Corolla, traveling east on 1st Avenue, made a right turn onto Rumer Drive, where the collision occurred. The rider of the motorcycle, who was thrown off the vehicle in the collision, was transported to the Schneider Regional Medical Center via ambulance for treatment, but succumbed to his injuries at about 8 p.m.

The identity of the motorcycle rider was being withheld pending notification of next of kin. 

Mr. Derima said the accident is currently under investigation. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact police by calling 911 or the Traffic Investigation Bureau at (340) 774-2211.
