Rescue personnel extinguish motorcycle fire following accident in Frenchtown, St. Thomas on Oct. 1, 2022 that resulted in the death of a man.
ST. THOMAS — A man riding a motorcycle at a high rate of speed in St. Thomas on Saturday lost control of the two-wheel vehicle, struck an object and was ejected, leading to his death, the V.I. Police Department has announced.
According to V.I.P.D. Director of Communications Glen Dratte, on Saturday at about 5:29 p.m., the 911 Emergency Call Center received reports of a traffic collision in Frenchtown in the area of Puma Gas Station.
A preliminary investigation revealed that the male individual lost control of his motorcycle, which led to him being ejected while the motorcycle collided into another vehicle about 50 feet away and immediately caught on fire.
The male individual, whose identity is being withheld pending next of kin notification, expired on the scene.
V.I.P.D. officers, V.I. Fire Service units and Emergency Medical Technicians were on the scene, according to Mr. Dratte, who further stated that the accident remains under active investigation.
