ST. CROIX — A well known individual in the community is facing involuntary manslaughter and other charges in connection with a July 2021 accident that resulted in the death of a 35-year-old man.
Kai A. Jackson, 45, was arrested on Tuesday and charged with involuntary manslaughter, negligent homicide by means of a vehicle, and reckless endangerment for his involvement in the deadly accident.
According to a release from the V.I. Police Department, on July 7, 2021, at around 3:06 a.m., the Patrol Division from the Ancilmo Marshall Command was dispatched by the 911 Emergency Call Center to investigate a two-vehicle collision that occurred on Orange Grove Road in the southbound lane, Route 703, in the vicinity of the old St. Dunstan’s Episcopal School.
Upon their arrival to the scene, the officers observed both vehicles in a head-on collision in the southbound lane. The operators of the vehicles involved in the crash were both male individuals, one of whom was later identified as Sito Martin who was operating a red 2000 Suzuki Vitara. The second driver was identified as Jackson who was operating a black 2018 Ford F-150 Truck.
According to the V.I.P.D., a preliminary investigation revealed that the Red Suzuki Vitara was in its lane traveling southbound while the Black Ford Pickup truck was traveling northbound. Evidence further indicates that the vehicles collided head-on in the southbound lane, the police department said.
According to police, an Emergency Room physician at the Juan F. Luis Hospital stated that Martin succumbed to injuries he sustained to the body from the accident and was pronounced dead.
On Tuesday, detectives from the Traffic Investigations Bureau located and served Jackson with an arrest warrant issued by a V.I. Superior Court magistrate. Jackson posted 10 percent of $50,000 bail and was released pending his advisement hearing.
