ST. CROIX — A St. Croix man as of Sunday afternoon was in a coma after sustaining injuries about the body following a single-vehicle accident that occurred during the early morning hours of Sunday, the Consortium has learned.

The victim's lawyer, Yohanna Manning, said the victim was still fighting for his life Sunday afternoon, though he was not stable enough to be flown off island for further medical attention. The family is asking the community to pray that he survives, Attorney Manning said.

Identified as Kahlil Wilson, the victim sustained injuries in the spine, neck, head and other areas.

The 911 emergency call center received notification of the accident at about 1:10 a.m. Sunday, according to V.I.P.D. Public Information Officer Toby Derima. Emergency responders on the scene detected no signs of life on the victim when they arrived on the scene.

The vehicle was heading west when the driver lost control and slammed into a tree near the St. Croix Educational Complex, according to police.

The Consortium, citing police sources, previously reported that the victim had succumbed to his injuries. However, Attorney Manning confirmed that the victim — though in critical condition — was still alive as of Sunday afternoon. We've updated the story to reflect the correct information.
