ST. CROIX — The body of a missing diver was found late Monday night after an extensive search effort off the coast of Frederiksted. The diver, identified by next of kin as Craig Todman, also known as “Tygah,” had gone missing earlier in the day.
According to the V.I. Police Department, the 911 Emergency Call Center received a call at approximately 5:38 p.m. on Monday reporting that a male diver had not returned after diving off Fisherman’s Dock around 9:00 a.m. that morning.
The search for the missing diver began in the afternoon, involving multiple agencies and local resources. St. Croix Rescue, the VIPD Marine Unit, the Department of Planning and Natural Resources (DPNR), and private fishermen all mobilized to search the waters where Todman was last seen. Despite several hours of concerted effort, the search was suspended for the evening at around 7:30 p.m., with plans to resume at first light the following day.
However, the search did not entirely stop. Private fishermen, who had recruited additional manpower, continued to comb the waters and found the body of Craig Todman just after 11:00 p.m.
The VIPD confirmed the identity of the diver and extended their condolences to the family. The circumstances surrounding the incident are still under investigation, and further details will be released as they become available.
