ST. CROIX — A two-vehicle collision on Saturday has resulted in one fatality, according to information provided to the Consortium by the V.I. Police Department following an inquiry. The incident occurred on the Bypass in Christiansted around 1:53 p.m.
The VIPD's Traffic Investigation Bureau was notified of the accident, prompting investigators to travel to the scene and the Juan F. Luis Hospital to collect information about the collision.
A preliminary investigation revealed that one vehicle, a silver 2022 Chevrolet Equinox was heading westbound while a second vehicle was heading east. Reportedly, the eastbound vehicle veered into the westbound lane, resulting in a head-on collision.

All four individuals involved in the accident were taken to Juan F. Luis Hospital for treatment. The 41-year-old driver of the westbound vehicle, along with a 5-year-old passenger, remained hospitalized as of Saturday for further observation due to the severity of their injuries, according to the VIPD. The driver of the eastbound vehicle was also admitted.
Tragically, a passenger of the vehicle in the westbound lane — which was struck by the vehicle in the eastbound lane — succumbed to her injuries.
The deceased was identified by next of kin as 72-year-old Deborah Anne Long. The time of death was recorded as approximately 2:45 p.m. Saturday at JFL, according to the VIPD.
The specific injuries that led to Ms. Long's death have yet to be determined.
The V.I. Department is urging any potential witnesses to the collision to come forward and assist with the ongoing investigation.
