TORTOLA, BVI — An accident in BVI waters late Saturday has resulted in the death of a popular BVI musician while sending multiple other victims to the Dr. D Orlando Smith Hospital for treatment.

The accident, which was confirmed by the BVI Royal Police Force Sunday morning, included a 40-foot Sunseeker yacht and a small power boat. Multiple BVI news reports state that the Sunseeker and the powerboat collided, nearly cutting the powerboat in half.

The incident resulted in the death of Frandie Martin, Jr., 50, a well known BVI musician who reports say suffered severe wounds and later succumbed to his injuries. Some individuals on the yacht suffered minor injuries, according to the reports.

The BVI Royal Police Force on Sunday said at least one person has been arrested in connection with the deadly collision. Diane Drayton, BVI police public information officer, said an investigation was ongoing. “All passengers are believed to be accounted for but inquiries continue to make the final determination,” she said in a brief statement to media.

The deadly collision is said to have occurred in the area of Prospect Reef late Saturday. Details relative to how the accident occurred remained unclear at time of publishing. BVI Search and Rescue emergency responders supported police officers in this matter.
