ST. CROIX — Authorities are investigating a fatal single-vehicle accident that occurred on Thursday on Queen Mary Highway (Route 70) near Oriental Bank. The incident involved 85-year-old Ferdinand Treasure, who later succumbed to his injuries at Juan F. Luis Hospital.

At approximately 2:29 p.m., the 911 Emergency Call Center dispatched a police detective from the Traffic Investigation Bureau to respond to a report of a one-vehicle collision along the southern shoulder of Queen Mary Highway. Upon arrival, Emergency Medical Services (EMS) and Fire personnel were assisting the driver, who was too weak to exit the vehicle unassisted. He was subsequently transported to the hospital for medical treatment.
According to the VIPD, Treasure was driving eastbound on Queen Mary Highway when he lost control while navigating a curve near Oriental Bank, veering to the right and colliding with a tree. The impact caused damage to several feet of roadside fencing. Investigators noted that Treasure was not wearing a seatbelt, and as a result, he sustained a head injury upon striking the windshield. No other occupants were present in the vehicle at the time of the crash.
On Saturday, February 22, the Traffic Investigation Bureau received confirmation from a family member that Treasure had passed away at Juan F. Luis Hospital. Officials are continuing their inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the crash.

The VIPD Traffic Investigation Bureau urges anyone with information related to this incident to come forward. The case remains open and under active investigation.
