ST.  CROIX — A 66-year-old man succumbed to injuries sustained after he was struck by a vehicle last week Tuesday, announced V.I.P.D. Public Information Officer Toby Derima on Monday.

According to the V.I.P.D. news release, February 11 at about 7:41 p.m., the 911 Emergency Call Center received a report of a vehicular, pedestrian accident in Estate Profit.

Mr. Derima said an investigation into the incident revealed that a silver Ford Ranger pickup truck was traveling southbound on Route 663 when a pedestrian, identified as 66-year-old Fernando Crispin, attempted to cross the road westbound, and was hit by the vehicle. Crispin was transported to the Juan F. Luis Hospital & Medical Center via ambulance, where he subsequently died from his injuries.

The investigation also revealed that the victim was wearing dark clothing, and the area did not have streetlights, according to Mr. Derima. Those factors may have contributed to the accident, stated the release.
