60-Year-Old Man Struck by Truck is Airlifted For Intensive Care

ST. THOMAS — A 60-year-old man had to be airlifted for intensive care after being struck by a Mack commercial vehicle (Mack truck) on Rumer Drive in St. Thomas Sunday night, V.I.P.D. Public Information Toby Derima has announced.

According to the V.I.P.D. news release, on Sunday at approximately 8:39 p.m., an accident involving a pedestrian on Rumer Drive was reported to the 911 Emergency Call Center.

Officers traveled to the area and learned that a 60-year-old male pedestrian entered the southbound lane of Rumer Drive and was struck by a Mack commercial vehicle that was heading southward.

The pedestrian was transported to the Schneider Regional Medical Center via ambulance for treatment, where he was listed in critical condition with major injuries about the body. He has since been flown out of the territory for additional medical care, Mr. Derima said.

The investigation into this accident is ongoing, according to police. Anyone with information about this accident is asked to call the VIPD Traffic Investigation Bureau at (340) 774-2211.
