ST. CROIX — A fatal two-vehicle crash near The Market STX in Estate Plessen has claimed the life of a 20-year-old man, the Virgin Islands Police Department has confirmed.

According to the VIPD, the incident occurred on Queen Mary Highway (Route 70) at approximately 8:50 p.m. on Friday. Emergency personnel responded to the scene following a call to the 911 Emergency Call Center, which reported a collision near the western entrance/exit of The Market STX in Frederiksted.

Upon arrival, officers from the VIPD’s Traffic Investigation Bureau learned that the operator of a dirt bike involved in the crash had already been transported by ambulance to the Juan F. Luis Hospital for emergency medical treatment.

A preliminary investigation revealed that the driver of a white Chevrolet Tahoe had slowed down and begun making a right turn into The Market STX when the dirt bike collided with the vehicle.

Police stated that the dirt bike operator was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. In addition, the bike was found to be both unregistered and uninsured.

Despite the efforts of medical personnel, the attending physician at Juan F. Luis Hospital pronounced the dirt bike rider dead due to injuries sustained in the accident. The deceased was later identified by next of kin as Jaden Stubbs, 20 years old.

The case remains open and is currently under active investigation by the VIPD’s Traffic Investigation Bureau in the St. Croix District.
