'Carnival Bash' Announced For September 5 As St. Croix Gears Up For 2015-2016 Festivities

ST. CROIX -- The Crucian Christmas Carnival Organization has announced the 2015-16 Carnival theme and some major dates for the upcoming festival season, and is asking the community to stay connected to its Facebook page for regular updates and announcements.

In March, the CCCO asked the public to submit theme suggestions, and it recently chose a theme submitted by Marcia Lewis, "Past, Present & Future Scenes, St. Croix Carnival 2015-2016" as the winning title.

CCCO says the theme reflects "both the history of our festival as it celebrates where we are now and shapes the future of carnival festivities on St. Croix," and added that it "allows for the creativity of the parade entries to emerge and is a great topic of discussion for pageant contestants."

"Every year the Committee brings something fresh and new to the table. We have to keep the excitement level high! This year we want to get people all over the world excited about St. Croix early in the season so we are introducing a Pre-Carnival J’ouvert Warm Up on September 5! People are already thinking about the Christmas Festivities, so why not fire up the excitement by having a Carnival bash in September? The two high energy bands who will participate in the J’ouvert warm up will be announced soon," reads the press release, issued on Saturday.

"We are encouraging troops to post photos of their parade costumes on our FaceBook page and for musicians to post a link to their new carnival music there also. We are working to make updates to the official web page. New music will be added to the website playlist. When the site it updated we will inform the public," it added.

Contestants are still being sought for the various contests and competitions. Deadlines are approaching soon. The organization says there is time remaining to apply for the St. Croix Carnival Queen, Prince and Princess, Party Monarch and Calypso Monarch. Participants are asked to register their troupes for "Carnival Meets the Runway'. Applications for vendors at the Christiansted Mini Village are available. The Food, Art and Crafts Committee is seeking food, drink and pastry vendors, as well as wood workers, visual artists, farmers, made in the Virgin Islands items, plant and fruit tree vendors.
