The V.I. Division of Personnel announced Friday the return of the government's Financial Fellows Program, aiming to attract new talent in the fields of accounting, business, finance, and project management.
The two-year initiative is seeking candidates for its third cohort, with the application process now open until August 18, 2023.
The Financial Fellows Program, jointly administered by the Division of Personnel and the Office of Management and Budget, offers recent graduates an opportunity to dive into the world of government service, according to the release. Fellows are provided with an entry-level position where they rotate across different government departments and agencies for up to six months, providing valuable exposure to various facets of governance.
Applicants can apply via the official website: https://www.dopusvi.org/.
Fellows will be paired with a mentor, who will guide them through their assignments, trainings, and development opportunities. In their second year, candidates will take on a business challenge project, a task designed to address a critical issue within the government structure, the release stated.
Once they've completed the program, fellows are given a chance to seek full-time employment within an agency, turning their experience into a potential career. Preferred applicants are those who hold a Bachelor's Degree in accounting, business administration, finance, mathematics, project management, or statistics/economics.
The Division of Personnel and partnering agencies expressed their enthusiasm about continuing this opportunity, according to the release. They see the program as a way for fellows to deepen their understanding of government and local issues while gaining hands-on professional experience. The initiative acts as a two-way street of benefits, equipping the young professionals with job experience and providing GVI with a pipeline of dedicated and trained staff.
