ST. THOMAS — The V.I. Police Department announced Saturday the arrests of two men in connection with a Dec. 4 gunpoint robbery that occurred at the Havensight Mall.

The incident is separate from the shooting and robbery attempt at the Glitter's jewelry store that left a security guard and a woman badly injured. The woman has since died, according to Police Commissioner Ray Martinez.

According to the V.I.P.D., on Friday at 12:34 p.m., police arrested Jaquin Phipps, age 25 and Demoi Barrow, age 22, both of Lovenlund Apartments. They were charged with first-degree robbery, second-degree robbery, first-degree assault, third-degree assault, grand larceny, simple assault, and brandishing, exhibiting or using a deadly weapon.

Phipps and Barrow were charged in connection with a robbery that occurred in the area of the Guardian Insurance Building at the Havensight Mall on December 4, 2021, where a male victim was robbed of his jewelry at gunpoint.

Unable to make bail of $75,000 each, both men were remanded to Bureau of Corrections pending his advisement hearing.

Chief of Police for the St. Thomas-St. John District, Barrington Thomas Sr., commended the work of detectives which resulted in the arrests. “Criminals must know that our officers will stop at nothing to bring them to justice. We thank the community for the support as we work together to make our home safe,” Chief Thomas said.

This case is under investigation by the Criminal Investigation Bureau.
