ST. THOMAS — The V.I. Police Department on Friday made a firearm and marijuana-related arrest in St. Thomas after performing a traffic stop prompted by a vehicle with one functioning headlight.

According to a V.I.P.D. news release, Special Operations Bureau officers were conducting a traffic enforcement initiative on Nicholas Friday Memorial Drive in front of the American Yacht Harbor at 8:00 p.m., after observing a vehicle with only one functioning headlight operated by an individual named Craig King.

When officers approached King's vehicle, they detected a strong odor of marijuana. King's vehicle was searched and he was found to be in possession of an unlicensed Mac 11 9mm Handgun, which he said belonged to him, according to police.

According to the release, the firearm had a fully-loaded, 30-round capacity magazine. King was also found in possession of a loaded 9mm magazine with the capacity of 50 rounds, along with three mason jars, two of which contained an undetermined amount of cash and one contained marijuana.

He was arrested for possession of an illegal firearm and possession of marijuana with intent to distribute.

Unable to post bail of $50,000, the 39-year-old King was remanded to the Bureau of Corrections pending his advisement hearing.
