The Virgin Islands Department of Labor Tuesday announced that a settlement has been reached in the government's case against Triangle Construction & Maintenance, Inc., stemming from a 2011 suit the government brought against the HOVENSA contractor for violations of the Virgin Islands Plant Closing Act (VIPCA).
In part, the government and Triangle have come to an agreement for the settlement of severance pay for certain former Triangle employees. However, the settlement requires arbitration to resolve the dispute of other former employees' entitlement to severance pay under the VIPCA, according to information released from Government House.
The exact amount of the settlement was not made known.
The Dept. of Labor has already begun notifying and have received claims from some affected former Triangle employees.
As the Feb. 12 deadline for claims to be submitted is approaching, Dept. of Labor officials are asking the following former Triangle employees to visit the department's St. Croix office, located at 4KA Sion Farm, to file a claim:
